Come and spend a short break steeped in history, and discover how one of USA's founding fathers came to influence not only the American, but the French revolution.
Thomas Paine was a resident in Lewes, and his stay in the town was crucial in his early formation of radical thinking that would eventually lead to the modern world state.
Paul Myles was festival director for The Thomas Paine Festival in Lewes in 2009, and as a result of being sponsored by the University of Sussex is now leading the research in this field.
History breaks for up to 4 people at Hill Road Studios will consist of a two night stay at our normal rates plus £50 per person
Paul will give an illustrated talk in the main house starting at 10.30 am
for 50 mins followed by a seminar style workshop until appox 1.00 giving the opportunity to explore original sources rich in potential insights into late 18th century Lewes. Coffee, tea, biscuits and a buffet lunch will be served.
In the afternoon Paul will conduct a guided tour of the Georgian County Town of East Sussex allowing a greater insight into the nooks, crannies and twittens of Lewes. Tom Paine Ale may be imbibed at some point on the walk if so desired.
Paul"s recently published book
is included in the package along with a map of Lewes. Later, visitors
can either enjoy one of the many fine restaurants in Lewes or self cater
in their detached studio apartment.
